One Monthly Goal :: August 2018

So a funny thing happened on my way to finishing this month's one monthly goal... My goal was to finish my Prince Edward Island MQG mystery quilt. I had finished all of the steps of the modern quilt option, but I forgot to print out the final instructions! Have no fear, I'm not good at following directions anyway. I decided to use what I had and wing the rest!

I did see a few of the modern quilts posted on the PEI MQG Facebook page.

I really like this variation.

I knew when I started this quilt that I would be gifting it to a friend of mine from my pre-quilting, pre-TBI days. Lorilee Craker and I were part of a writing group we called The Guild. One of her more recent books is Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter, and Me. It's a beautiful memoir and when I saw that the Prince Edward Island MQG was doing a mystery quilt, I knew I would be making an Anne of Green Gables quilt for Lorilee.

I added a quote because it was a fitting tie to Lorilee and I's ties as writers. And when I chose the quote about kindred spirits, I knew I needed Anne and Diana on the quilt too.

I was able to deliver the quilt this past weekend during a quick trip to Michigan for the AQS Quilt show.

PEI Modern Quilt Guild Mystery 2017: Clue 5

Most of my quilt alongs from last year are finishing up, but my PEI Modern Quilt Guild mystery is still plugging along. Clue #5 was half rectangle triangles. I've never made them before but the directions were great and I was really happy I had the Tri-Rec ruler from last year's Bonnie Hunter mystery, En Provence.

I made the decision not to do as many quilt alongs this year, in large part to make sure that I finish the ones I've started, I have to admit that it's really fun to have a quilt come together slowly like this. A perfect no-stress project!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild Mystery 2017: Clue 4

Another month is flying by! Clue 4 of the PEI Modern Quilt Guild mystery was fun to make. I love the precision of paper piecing, especially when it is made of nice easy blocks like these.

The mystery continues through April, so I'm thinking I may need to buy some yardage of my favorite Anne of Green Gables prints. I started with a layer cake and my options are dwindling!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild: Clue 3

Between being extra sleepy and extra distracted this month, my quilt projects have been piling up! I now have 5 quilt tops to quilt! Time for me to get into the holiday spirit with the Hallmark channel and crank out some quilting!

In the meantime, I have managed to finish my November assignment for the Prince Edward Island Modern Quilt Guild mystery quilt.

The name of this block is lozenge. It was a little tricky for me because the Anne of Green Gables fabric I'm using are from a 10" layer cake. I only have one square of some of the prints and I messed up the cutting on one--grrr... But I'm happy with how these turned out.

PEI Modern Quilt Guild: Clue 2

I am a social quilting MACHINE these days! Here's my October assignment for the Prince Edward Island Modern Quilt Guild mystery quilt.

I think the biggest challenge for this quilt will be keeping track of where I use each print. I made this chart to help me keep everything straight!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild Mystery: Step 1

My addiction to social quilting continues. I joined another quilt along this month! I was posting on a Facebook page when someone told me about a mystery quilt sponsored by the Prince Edward Island Modern Quilt Guild.

Several months ago, on a lark, I bought an Anne of Green Gables layer cake from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I've never bought pre-cuts before or after, but who doesn't love Anne of Green Gables?

Clue one was to make 112 half square triangles. Here's mine:

The book in the center was written by a friend of mine from Michigan. In my pre-brain injury, pre-quilting life, I was a professional writer and Lorilee was part of my writer's group, The Guild. I think working on this project is going to be reminding me a lot of that sweet season of my life and my talented writer friends.
