Fifth Anniversary Fireplace

Traditionally, the fifth anniversary is the wood anniversary. My mom gave us a pair of old wooden shoes (klompen), quite fitting for a Dutch couple. When we were in Berlin, Ohio for our anniversary date, we found this wooden "Home" art from P. Graham Dunn that we loved. When we got home, we found the perfect place for it over our fireplace.

We still have some styling to do in our great room, so we haven't posted many photos yet, but here's a sneak peek. I found that 24"x36" frame at Goodwill for $9. You can find the same one at Target for $40.

We will be putting one of our new family photos in that frame. Probably this one:

Here's a cleaned up photo showing off the Home art.

We love how it fits so well inside the frame.

Other side:

With a peek of the est. art I made. Tutorial to come...

And a view from the stairs, where you can see the remotes for the fan and fireplace, and the plug in.

We're still mulling over how to style the mantle. I think the Eiffel Tower from second photo will make the cut (Niels proposed there). Any other suggestions?

    1. Thanks for stopping by! It's funny how--after two years of depersonalizing our old house and looking at every model and Parade home in sight--odd it feels to actually give yourself freedom to make personal touches again. But every time I walk by the fireplace (and my anniversary wall), I smile and say outloud how much I love it!

  3. What a fun addition to the fireplace - it really pops against the white! I also really like the molding you've got above the fireplace. Classic.

Thanks for sharing on Show & Tell at SNAP!

    xoxo, Tauni
