Quilt #122 :: Buckeye Bricks

My second finish of 2019 was started almost a year ago.

I thought it was going to be a quick little quilt, but somehow it got caught in UFO-land! Fun fact, the purple quilt that was on the right also got stuck in UFO-land! It is currently finished and sandwiched and hopefully about to be my 3rd or 4th finish of 2019!

My original thought last year was that I was going to try to use up some of my scraps with a bunch of small comfort quilts in this same brick pattern in each color. Apparently, I stopped at red!

This is the second quilt I've made with this pattern. The last one was in 2015, when I made a baby quilt for a mama friend from D"s school. (I still have to write up that quilt. Maybe I'll do it next!)

You can see that I finished the flimsy back when I was working on my Gramma Ann memory quilts.

D was especially happy that I finished this one the same day as Molly's Mermaid quilt so he could sleep with both of them, with this one on top!

This quilt will be going to be donated to a local kindergarten class here in Akron. It's one of my favorite things about our local quilting group. We collect and distribute quilts all year, but this is the one time when we get to see the faces of those who receive our quilts. It totally makes my year! Here are the two quilts I made for last year's class of kindergartners.

You can find more pictures of this quilt on Instagram at #BuckeyeBrickQuilt. To see what I'm currently working on, follow me at deJongDreamHouse.

  1. How cool - I love the way the two quilts from last year used the same checkerboard placement of the X blocks, but look so incredibly, dramatically, different from each other!

  2. That's a great go to pattern! Thanks for sharing it on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  3. Go Bucks! We are OSU fans as well. I have a few OSU quilts. Funny that I have used the two of the same fabrics (the first one in the first row and the last one in the first row.) Great minds think alike. I love your June quilt as well. :)
