Easy Fixes #1

Ever have those ideas that make life so much easier that you think, "Wow...why didn't I think of that before?" I had two such a-ha moments this week.

Easy Fix #1: Tie a string to the string to the light bulb in the basement.

As you can see, my son has a few trains and train tracks. He spends hours down in our unfinished basement each day playing with Thomas and his friends. (We purposely kept the basement unfinished for now so that D would have lots of room to spread out). Because most of D's toys are downstairs, we are constantly going up and down the stairs. D is finally starting to play by himself down there, although he still doesn't like to be alone. He prefers me on the same level. Every time we go down stairs, I have to turn on three different lights, carefully stepping over trains and tracks along the way.

But then, I thought, what if I tied a string onto the string so D could turn the lights on and off by himself?

Brilliant! D loves to have another job he can do all by himself!

Easy Fix #2: Use command hooks so I don't have to awkwardly fish out my iPad cord from behind the nightstand.

This is my nightstand.

This is the cord that doesn't like to stay on the nightstand.

These are the command hooks that make my life easier:

I place two hooks next to each other. The cord hangs in between both of them and doesn't fall down behind the night stand.

I placed the command hooks just behind the night stand. They may be hidden better if I put them a tad lower, but this way avoids awkward bending when I'm in bed.

And, because I'm nice, I put hooks up for Niels' phone, too.

I'd love to hear your easy fixes!

  2. Great ideas! I am constantly loosing my cord to the abyss behind the bed. This really is an easy fix!
